Type of Student Desired: I will work with any level of motivated student who is open to serious critiques and new learning. I would not be the right person to work with someone whose poetry is highly experimental or for whom the idea of “meaning” and communication with a reader, is not part of their aesthetics. Potential students are strongly suggested to read my own work to determine whether we might be a good fit. Then I comment on work, I try to be gentle but direct and honest especially about craft issues. When I praise something done well, I mean it. I love teaching and am highly supportive of the poets I've worked with.
